Eastern Ghats of India also known as ‘Purva Ghat’ or ‘Mahendra Parvata’ It’s a Discontinuous Range span southern Tamil Nadu, passing through sections of Karnataka, from northern Odisha through Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

THE EASTERN GHATS RANGE

Important facts about Eastern ghats of India:

  • It’s a discontinuous mountain range.
  • Not a Continuous chain of mountains cause they are broken by the wide flow of rivers i.e, Kaveri, Krishna, Godavari.
  • Older than Western Ghats.
  • It’s not as big as compare to western ghats.
  • It Runs Parallel to the bay of Bengal. They receive less rainfall than the Western Ghats since they are parallel to the Bay of Bengal monsoon.
  • Eastern Ghats are lower than the western ghats
  • height of hils is between 600m to 900 m
  • there are evergreen deciduous Forest.
  • Deccan Plateau lies to the west of the range basically its between eastern ghats and western ghats
  • There is a point where both the ranges meet the western ghats and the eastern ghats of India which is the Nilgiri hills in Tamil Nadu.
  • Jindhagada Peak is the Highest Peak in Eastern Ghats.

1.Odisha :

  • Garhjat Range- Garhjat Hills is a mountain range formed by a series low-lying hills, plateaux, ridges and meadows that stretch into Odisha from the Utkal Plains in the Chotanagpur region of Jharkhand and the Chhattisgarh Plains. The range, also known as the Odisha Highlands, runs in a north east to south west direction for about 382 km.

2. Tamil Nadu:

  • Sheveroy Hills-Shevaroy Hills isĀ an outlying range of the Eastern Ghats in north-central Tamil Nadu, India. The Shevaroy Hills cover approximately 150 square miles (390 square km). The highest peaks are in the southwest, with Sanyasimalai (Duff’s Hill) on the Yercaud plateau reaching 5,231 feet (1,594 meters).

  • Javadi Hills -The Javadi Hills are located between the districts of Vellore and Tiruvannamalai in Tamil Nadu, dividing them. 3. Karnataka:

  • Male Mahadeshwara – temple Male Mahadeshwara Betta is a pilgrim town located in the Hanur taluk of Chamarajanagar district of southern Karnataka. It is situated at about 150 km from Mysuru and about 210 km from Bengaluru.

  • Deomali -The spectacular bird’s eye view of the Eastern Ghats from a quaint mountain peak in Odisha has piqued the interest of nature lovers and photographers. Deomali, Odisha’s highest peak, is a hidden unexplored gem in the Chandragiri-Pottangi sub-range of the Eastern Ghats. Deomali is 1,672 metres above sea level and is located near Koraput town in the Koraput district of southern Odisha. The peak is abundant in flora and fauna, and it is surrounded by a lush green forest.

4. Odisha :

  • Mahendragiri – The second highest peak of eastern ghats. talking about the natural beauties of eastern ghats it will be on the top of that.Lord pashurama spent his time here in meditation on lord shiva to atone his killing of the kashtriyas.

5.Andhra Pradesh:

  • Nallamala Hills- The Nallamala Hills or ranges are a true delight for nature lovers! Though the Nallamala Ranges are spread across several districts in Andhra Pradesh, each location is worth exploring. The Nallamalas are part of the Eastern Ghats, which are rich in natural beauty.
